According to the information received, 12 of the 14 members of the group became unwell on the day they returned to the UK. At the time of writing, three members have tested positive for Salmonella, with further test results awaited.
The reported consequences are extremely concerning.

Another child required two separate attendances at A&E, whilst several members of the group continue to suffer ongoing symptoms and have required time off work.
Salmonella Can Be a Serious Illness
Whilst many people recover from Salmonella without long term complications, it should never be dismissed as simply “food poisoning”.
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause:
- Severe diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- High fever
- Significant dehydration
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- Hospitalisation in serious cases
Young children, elderly people and those with underlying medical conditions are particularly vulnerable. In some cases, the infection can lead to prolonged illness requiring hospital treatment and antibiotics.
